On 22 January the Chinese Year 4.720 begins. According to Chinese astrology and its 12-year cycle, 2023 is considered to be the beginning of the 20th century. Year of the Rabbit.

Features of the Chinese New Year:

• Chinese New Year is the biggest holiday in China. The celebrations last for 15 days and end with the Lantern Festival. The first 3 days are considered holidays.
• The Chinese celebrate the New Year with lots of fireworks, as they believe that the noise drives away evil spirits.
• Red is the dominant color, symbolizing fire, which is believed to ward off bad luck.
• The festive meal includes dishes featuring chicken or fish—and, of course, noodles. Noodles symbolize longevity; that’s why, when cooking them, people take care not to break them.
